Buñuel in the labyrinth of the turtles

Lead animator+ co-animation supervisor

[Feature Film]

Synopsis: In Paris in 1930, Luis Buñuel is left penniless after a film leads to a falling out with Salvador Dalí. On a whim, Buñuel's good friend, sculptor Ramón Acín, buys a lottery ticket and promises to devote his winnings to fund Buñuel's next film.

This was a very challenging but amazingly cool project I did in 2017. Together with the production manager Bas Kocken and supervisor Giulia Landi, I had to set up and run the Dutch side of this Spanish animation production, and make sure the quality of our delivered work would be up to European feature film standards. This was my first time (co-)supervising a feature film, so I learned a lot in this production. We did roughly 15 to 20 minutes of the animation at Submarine studio. It was really nice to work with such talented people and such a talented team, not to forget the wonderful people at The Glow Animation Studio in Spain.

Especially director Salvador Simo Busom was a pleasure to work with, as he gave us extensive lectures in minimal acting in live-action, which still influences my work till this day; sometimes the acting is in not doing anything at all a whole shot long, instead of moving and blinking constantly.
